Stop! Applying DAP After Wheat Irrigation Harms Yield, Wastes Money
- •Applying DAP after wheat irrigation is ineffective and wasteful, say agricultural experts like Dr. N.P. Gupta.
- •DAP is a 'basal dose' fertilizer; phosphorus fixes in the soil and has very low mobility, preventing it from reaching roots.
- •For best results, apply DAP (50-55 kg per acre) at the time of sowing, placed 2-3 cm below the seed.
- •Use urea (40-45 kg per acre) after the first irrigation, typically 21-25 days after sowing, for nitrogen needs.
- •If DAP was not applied at sowing, spray NPK 19:19:19 instead of DAP after irrigation.
Why It Matters: Apply DAP at sowing, not after irrigation, for optimal wheat yield and fertilizer efficiency.
