New Dinosaur Species Discovered in Sahara: Spinosaurus mirabilis Astonishes Scientists
•A new dinosaur species, Spinosaurus mirabilis, has been discovered in the central Sahara of Niger, astonishing paleontologists.
•This 95-million-year-old species is the second known species of the Spinosaurus genus, found by a team led by Paul Sereno from the University of Chicago.
•Initially, a head crest was found in 2019, but a 2022 expedition uncovered more bones, leading to the assembly of a 3D skull model.
•Spinosaurus mirabilis was as long as a school bus (12-15 meters) and had a distinctive scimitar-shaped bony crest, likely used for display.
•Unlike other Spinosaurus, this species lived in inland rivers and forested areas, hunting fish in wetlands, strengthening spinosaurid evolution theories.
