• Ancient texts and local legends suggest Sita, Rama, and the Pandavas roamed the nearby tall mountain, and the temple pond never dries up.
• In the 16th century, Pusapati Sitaramachandra Gajapati Maharaja built the temple after a mute old woman, blessed by Lord Rama, revealed the location of hidden idols.
• The idols of Sri Sita-Rama-Lakshmana, hidden since Dvapara Yuga, were found in a water pond and consecrated on Shwetachalam.
