Chitwan National Park: Tiger Census Begins Soon, 600 Cameras Deployed

  • Tiger census to begin soon in Nepal's Chitwan National Park, adjacent to India's Valmiki Tiger Reserve.
  • The census will also include Parsa, Banke, Bardia, and Shuklaphanta National Parks, with Chitwan and Parsa counted jointly.
  • Approximately 600 automatic cameras will be used for 'camera trapping' across 900 grids over three months.
  • A two-day training workshop for 150 participants was held on December 16-17 before field work commences.
  • The 2022 census recorded 335 tigers in Nepal's forest areas, with 128 in Chitwan National Park alone.

Why It Matters: Nepal's tiger count near India is key for shared wildlife conservation.
