India to Monetize Assets Worth ₹16.72 Lakh Crore in 5 Years: NMP 2.0 Launched
•The Indian government aims to raise over ₹16.72 lakh crore through the National Monetization Pipeline 2.0 over the next five years (FY2025-26 to FY2029-30).
•Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched NMP 2.0, which involves leasing existing central ministry and PSU assets to the private sector.
•NMP 1.0, launched in 2021, achieved 89% of its ₹6 lakh crore target, raising approximately ₹5.3 lakh crore.
•Key sectors targeted for monetization include highways (₹4.42 lakh crore), power (₹2.77 lakh crore), ports (₹2.64 lakh crore), and railways (₹2.62 lakh crore).
•Asset monetization involves making idle government assets income-generating by leasing them to private companies for a fixed period, with funds used for new capital expenditure and debt reduction.
