Indian Railways Transforms with LHB Coaches: 18-Fold Production Surge in 11 Years
- •Indian Railways has seen an 18-fold increase in LHB coach production, with 42,677 coaches manufactured between 2014-2025, compared to 2,337 in the preceding decade.
- •LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches are modern, German-technology based, made of stainless steel, and designed for speeds up to 200 km/h with improved safety features.
- •These coaches feature anti-telescopic and anti-climbing mechanisms, significantly reducing casualties and damage during accidents, as stated by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
- •LHB coaches are manufactured at Integral Coach Factory, Chennai; Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala; and Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli, with significant investments in upgrades.
- •The phased replacement of older ICF coaches with LHB coaches aims to provide safer, more comfortable, and reliable journeys for passengers due to their advanced design and braking systems.
