Jan Dhan Accounts Soar to 57.71 Crore: Who Can Open This Zero Balance Account?
•Over 57.71 crore Jan Dhan accounts opened nationwide under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), making banking accessible.
•Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that over 28 crore Jan Dhan accounts are held by women, nearly half of the total.
•Key features include zero minimum balance, interest on deposits, and a free RuPay Debit Card.
•Account holders receive a personal accident insurance cover (Rs 1 lakh, or Rs 2 lakh for accounts opened after Aug 28, 2018) and an overdraft facility up to Rs 10,000.
•Any Indian citizen aged 10+ without an existing bank account can open it with Aadhaar, Voter ID, and a photo, regardless of income.
