AIIMS, IIT Delhi Pioneer Robotic Ultrasound: Doctors Scan Patients Thousands of Miles Away

• AIIMS New Delhi, in collaboration with IIT Delhi, developed a robotic ultrasound technology.
• Doctors can now perform ultrasounds for patients thousands of kilometers away from the hospital.
• A historic remote ultrasound was successfully conducted on a person at India's Maitri research station in Antarctica, over 12,000 km away.
• The system uses 'Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (FAST)' technique and haptic control for precise robotic arm operation.
• This technology is beneficial for patients in remote areas, disaster zones, or those unable to reach a hospital, offering examinations with minimal delay and high image quality.
