India expands Sri Lanka cyclone relief with 4 more ships, joint engineering effort

  • India deployed four additional naval ships to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu for post-cyclone humanitarian assistance.
  • These ships are delivering humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) stores to multiple affected regions, with some already arriving in Colombo and Trincomalee.
  • India has sent approximately 1,000 tonnes of food and clothing to Sri Lanka so far, including 300 tonnes recently handed over by the Indian High Commissioner.
  • Beyond maritime aid, Indian Army engineers are collaborating with Sri Lankan counterparts to restore damaged infrastructure, such as the A35 road bridge in Kilinochchi.
  • Diplomatic engagement continues, with Sri Lankan officials thanking India for its ongoing relief efforts and India reaffirming its commitment to support Sri Lanka's recovery.

Why It Matters: India's aid to Sri Lanka reinforces regional cooperation and disaster response.
