India's FTAs Boost Exports, But Trade Deficits Persist with UAE, Australia
- •India's Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) have significantly increased trade volumes with partner countries since 2014-15.
- •Despite export growth, India faces widening trade deficits with major economies like the UAE and Australia.
- •Under the India–UAE CEPA, India's trade deficit reached $23.76 billion (April–December 2025), with imports ($56.60 billion) exceeding exports ($32.84 billion).
- •The Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) with Australia also resulted in a $5.54 billion trade deficit for the same period.
- •In contrast, India maintains a strong trade surplus with Mauritius, totaling $309.94 million (April–December 2025).
