Vehicular Emissions, Dust Choking Delhi NCR Air, Pollution Body Tells SC

• The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) informed the Supreme Court that vehicular emissions and dust are the primary causes of air pollution in Delhi NCR during winter and summer.
• CAQM presented a report to the SC on January 21, outlining short-term and long-term measures to improve air quality, including plans to ease traffic at MCD toll plazas.
• A Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kanta, accepted the report and urged stakeholders not to object to the recommendations.
• The court directed central government ministries, state governments of Rajasthan, Delhi, and Haryana, civic bodies, and metro corporations to submit action plans within four weeks.
• Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati stated that the measures were developed through extensive deliberations with experts from IITs, academia, research bodies, and NGOs.
