Bokaro Village: 200 Years Without Holi, Fear of Calamity Haunts Residents
•
Durgapur village in Bokaro, Jharkhand, has not celebrated Holi for 200 years, a unique and mysterious tradition.
•
Approximately 1700 residents in 11 hamlets observe Holi in silence, fearing a great calamity if they celebrate.
•
The boycott stems from a bloody rivalry two centuries ago: King Durga Prasad was killed by Ramgarh's king, leading to a massacre of villagers.
•
Holi celebrations were halted in mourning for this incident, according to former deputy head Bhim Prasad Mahto.
•
Villagers also believe their deity, Badrao Pahari Baba, dislikes colors, fearing misfortune if the festival is celebrated.
