Giridih Laborers Escape Terrorist Captivity in Niger After 8 Months
- •Five laborers from Giridih, Jharkhand, returned home after being held hostage by terrorists in Niger for eight months and 11 days.
- •They were working on the Kalpataru Transmission Line Project in Niger when terrorists attacked, killing security guards and other laborers, and taking six hostage.
- •The laborers were moved every 15 days, forced to cook their own food, and survived on dirty jungle water, constantly fearing for their lives.
- •To cope with mental stress, they sang film songs and narrated movie stories to each other.
- •They were eventually released at the abduction site and returned to India with the help of the Indian Embassy.
