West Bengal: 85+ Voters Get Home Hearings, No More Summons!

  • West Bengal Election Commission mandates home hearings for voters aged 85+, physically challenged, or ill.
  • These voters will no longer need to visit hearing centers for SIR (Special Summary Revision) related issues.
  • Booth Level Officers (BLAOs) will identify eligible voters, inform them by phone, and conduct hearings at their residences.
  • The directive was issued by the Chief Electoral Officer to all District Magistrates.
  • Trinamool Congress delegation, following Abhishek Banerjee's announcement, met CEO Manoj Agarwal to protest harassment of elderly voters, leading to this change.

Why It Matters: Elderly and disabled voters in West Bengal will now have SIR hearings at home, thanks to a new directive.
