Rewa's Kodo Millet Becomes South India's 'Superstar', Farmers Reap Huge Profits
•Vindhya's improved Kodo variety, JK-49, is gaining immense popularity among farmers in South Indian states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
•Kodo cultivation, once declining in Rewa and Shahdol divisions, is now seeing renewed interest due to low cost and high profitability.
•Developed by Agricultural College and Research Center Rewa, JK-49 Kodo is rich in medicinal properties, beneficial for diabetics, and known as 'sugar-free rice'.
•The new JK-49 variety is robust, resistant to wind and rain, and yields 15-18 quintals per hectare with normal farming, up to 28-30 quintals with optimal practices.
•Kodo grains are selling for 70-80 rupees per kilogram, with government subsidies further boosting farmer income.
