• Three assailants – Mallesh, Sai, and Sharanappa – demanded money, then attacked the men, pushing them into the canal; Bibash Nayak drowned.
• The criminals subsequently beat, robbed, and gang-raped the two women, an act later deemed a 'rare of rare' case by the court.
• All three accused were swiftly arrested, convicted of gang rape, murder, and other charges, and sentenced to death on February 16, 2026, by the Koppal court.
