Lucknow Achieves Zero Fresh Waste Dumping, Sets Cleanliness Record in UP
- •Lucknow becomes the first city in Uttar Pradesh to achieve 100% scientific processing of municipal solid waste, eliminating fresh waste dumping.
- •The city processes approximately 2,000 metric tons of waste daily, with total processing capacity now exceeding 2,100 metric tons after a new unit at Shivri Solid Waste Management plant.
- •Door-to-door waste collection is at 96.53%, and source segregation of wet and dry waste is over 70%, leading to production of compost, biogas, and RDF.
- •69% of legacy waste (12.86 lakh metric tons out of 18.5 lakh metric tons) has been scientifically processed, cleaning over 25 acres at the Shivri site.
- •Future plans include a 15-megawatt Waste-to-Energy plant to generate electricity from 1,000-1,200 tons of RDF daily, reducing pollution and increasing revenue.
Why It Matters: Lucknow sets a national benchmark by achieving zero fresh waste dumping and transforming waste into a resource.
