Mecca Masjid: Hyderabad's Royal Cemetery, Where Nizams Rest in Indo-Islamic Grandeur
•
Historic Mecca Masjid, standing in the shadow of Charminar, is the final resting place for many rulers of Hyderabad's Asaf Jahi dynasty.
•
Construction began in the 17th century by Sultan Muhammad Qutb Shah and was completed during Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's reign.
•
The royal cemetery within houses tombs of Nizams from the second (Nizam Ali Khan) to the sixth (Mir Mahbub Ali Khan), and their families.
•
Hyderabad's eighth and last titular Nizam, Mukarram Jah, was also buried here in January 2023 as per his will.
•
These white marble tombs are prime examples of Indo-Islamic architecture, featuring intricate jali work, attracting tourists and historians.
