IMD Warns: Bay of Bengal Storm to Bring Torrential Rain, North India Braces for Severe Cold

  • IMD issued a warning for a deep depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal, expected to intensify and bring heavy rain to South India.
  • Torrential rain with thunder and lightning is predicted for Tamil Nadu on January 9-10, and Kerala on Saturday due to the Bay of Bengal system.
  • North India faces a 'double attack' of dense fog and severe cold, with a Western Disturbance affecting Punjab, UP, Bihar, Delhi-NCR, and other northern states.
  • Dense to very dense fog alerts are issued for Punjab, West Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh until January 9, extending to other northern states until January 15.
  • Delhi-NCR is experiencing biting cold with temperatures dropping below 5 degrees Celsius, and no significant relief expected in Northwest, East India, and Gujarat for 7 days.

Why It Matters: IMD warns of dual weather threats: torrential rain in South India from Bay of Bengal storm, severe cold and fog in North.
