Tharoor's Kashmiri Pandit Bill Stalled by Uproar, Aims to Address Exodus Injustice
•Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed regret over not being able to present his Private Member Bill for Kashmiri Pandits due to parliamentary uproar.
•The bill, first drafted in 2021, aims to recognize the 1990s exodus as a human rights issue and provide legal rights and rehabilitation for the displaced community.
•It remained pending for five years, lapsed with the 17th Lok Sabha, and despite being listed for February 2026, could not be tabled.
•Tharoor's personal connection, through his late wife Sunanda Pushkar (a Kashmiri Pandit), is also linked to his advocacy for the community.
•The full draft of the bill has not been made public as per rules, which state it can only be released after presentation in the House.
