Varsha Pratipada: Hindu New Year, RSS Founder's Birth Anniversary & Rich History
•Varsha Pratipada, the Hindu New Year, is one of six festivals celebrated by the RSS since its inception, also marking the birth anniversary of its founder, Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.
•The day holds deep historical and religious significance, believed to be when Lord Brahma began creation, Emperor Vikramaditya defeated Shakas, Lord Rama was crowned, and Maharishi Dayanand established Arya Samaj.
•The RSS observes Varsha Pratipada with Swayamsevaks in full uniform, offering a special 'Aadya Sarsanghchalak Pranam' to the founder, and organizing intellectual discourses and competitions.
•Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, a medical doctor, founded the RSS in 1925 in Nagpur at age 36, dedicating his life to building one of the world's largest voluntary organizations.
•Despite his birth on April 1, 1889, his anniversary is observed on Varsha Pratipada; the RSS avoids personality cults and does not celebrate individual birth anniversaries.
