Fake CBI Officer, Digital Arrest: Udaipur Couple Loses ₹68 Lakh in Cyber Fraud

  • A retired senior officer and his wife in Udaipur were defrauded of ₹68 lakh through a 'digital arrest' scam.
  • Fraudsters posed as CBI officers, an additional superintendent of police, and a magistrate from Delhi.
  • The couple, Bharat Vyas and Asha Vyas, were intimidated for 12 days, accused of money laundering, and coerced into transferring funds.
  • They were kept under constant video surveillance, a tactic referred to as 'digital arrest', from December 28, 2025, to January 8, 2026.
  • The fraud was uncovered when no official notice or document arrived, prompting the couple to file a complaint with the Cyber Police Station.
