Murshidabad Pioneers Waste-to-Fertilizer Project: Clean Roads, Organic Farms
- •Murshidabad district has launched a Faecal Sludge Management System to convert household waste faeces into organic fertilizer.
- •The initiative aims to keep roads clean, reduce chemical use in farming, and provide organic nutrients for crops.
- •Established in Motra More, Gokarna No. 2 Panchayat, the system is managed by Kandi Panchayat Samiti and Kandi Municipality.
- •It offers safe septic tank emptying services, treats solid/liquid waste, and reuses treated products to produce organic fertilizer.
- •Trials have begun, with a capacity to process 8 faeces-filled tanks daily, benefiting 5 blocks and municipalities including Kandi, Nabagram, Berhampore, Khargram, Barwan, and Bharatpur.
