IIT Kanpur, NCRA Scientists Unveil New Tech to Measure Distant Stars Accurately
•IIT Kanpur and NCRA scientists developed a new, effective method to accurately measure the distance of distant stars, especially pulsars.
•The research, published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, was led by Dr. Ashish Kumar, Prof. Avinash Deshpande, and Prof. Pankaj Jain.
•The technique analyzes radio waves from pulsars, combining 'Dispersion Measure' and 'Scatter Broadening' to overcome limitations of previous methods.
•It can also estimate the speed of stars, offering deeper insights into their movement through space.
•Successfully tested in the Gum Nebula, the method accurately placed the Vela Pulsar inside, correcting previous data.
