UP Implements Mandatory Aadhaar Verification for Property Registration to Combat Fraud

  • Uttar Pradesh has introduced a new rule making Aadhaar authentication mandatory for property registration across all sub-registrar offices since February 1.
  • The initiative, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aims to curb fraudulent property transfers and fake registrations.
  • Both the buyer and the seller, along with witnesses, must undergo Aadhaar verification using a thumb machine at the time of registration.
  • This new system will prevent individuals from fraudulently registering someone else's property, significantly reducing fake registrations.
  • Officials expect the measure to decrease fraud complaints, authenticate individuals, and ultimately reduce the burden of property-related cases on courts.
