UPPCL to Refund ₹127 Crore to 3.67 Lakh Consumers for Smart Meter Overcharge

•Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) has ordered UPPCL to refund ₹127 crore to 3.67 lakh electricity consumers.
•The refund is for additional money collected illegally for smart prepaid meters, as UPPCL and DISCOMs charged without UPERC's approved rates.
•Consumers were overcharged approximately ₹3216 for single-phase and ₹7241 for three-phase connections.
•The overcharged amount will be adjusted in electricity bills, with remaining balances credited to upcoming bills starting from April 1.
•UPERC Chairman Arvind Kumar and member Sanjay Kumar Singh declared the collection illegal, violating the Electricity Act 2003.
