UPPCL to Refund ₹127 Crore to 3.67 Lakh Consumers for Smart Meter Overcharge
•
Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) has ordered UPPCL to refund ₹127 crore to 3.67 lakh electricity consumers.
•
The refund is for additional money collected illegally for smart prepaid meters, as UPPCL and DISCOMs charged without UPERC's approved rates.
•
Consumers were overcharged approximately ₹3216 for single-phase and ₹7241 for three-phase connections.
•
The overcharged amount will be adjusted in electricity bills, with remaining balances credited to upcoming bills starting from April 1.
•
UPERC Chairman Arvind Kumar and member Sanjay Kumar Singh declared the collection illegal, violating the Electricity Act 2003.
