Illegal Telecom Gateway Busted in Kolkata: SIM Boxes Seized, 2 Arrested

• Kolkata Police uncovered a massive illegal telecom gateway operation converting international calls to local ones.
• Multiple SIM boxes, laptops, routers, 17 mobile phones, 2250 SIM cards, and other electronic devices were seized from Amherst Police Station area.
• Two individuals, Mohammad Amjad and Abir Sheikh, were arrested in connection with the illegal operation.
• The investigation began after a complaint of a 3 crore rupee extortion using a 'CBI scare', tracing two phone numbers to the illegal gateway.
• Police found links to Malaysia and Bangladesh, with Bangladeshi national Abir involved, and masterminds active in India's northeastern states and Malaysia.
