Rare Flying Squirrel Spotted in Valmiki Tiger Reserve, Bihar

• A rare flying squirrel was recently spotted and rescued from a residential area in the Valmiki Nagar range of Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in Bihar.
• The squirrel, a nocturnal rodent larger than common squirrels, was found near the IB Office in the E-Type Colony of the Water Resources Department.
• Forest Guard Sumit Kumar first spotted the creature, leading to its safe rescue by the Forest Department team.
• Flying squirrels glide up to 60 meters using a skin membrane between their front and hind legs.
• VTR, located in Bihar's West Champaran district, is a habitat for nearly 60 mammal species, 30 reptile species, and over 300 bird species, including rare wildlife.
