New Customs Rules 2026: Duty-Free Gold Limit Increased for Travelers from Abroad

• The Union Ministry of Finance has implemented new Customs Baggage (Declaration and Processing) Regulations 2026, effective February 2, 2026, replacing the 2016 rules.
• Indian citizens or tourists of Indian origin residing abroad for over a year can now bring duty-free jewelry: 40 grams for women and 20 grams for men.
• The new rules simplify declarations, aiming to reduce hassle at airports and provide clarity for passengers.
• Duty-free limits for other goods include INR 75,000 for Indian residents/tourists (non-land entry) and INR 25,000 for foreign tourists.
• Prohibited items include maps misrepresenting India's borders, narcotics, counterfeit currency, and goods infringing intellectual property rights.
