Sent UPI to Wrong Account? Don't Panic! Get Your Money Back with These Steps
- •If you send money to the wrong UPI ID, don't panic; UPI transactions are traceable with a unique Transaction ID (UTR).
- •Immediately note down all transaction details (UTR, date, time, amount, recipient's UPI ID) and recheck if the transaction is pending.
- •File a complaint on the UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm) via 'Report a Problem' and contact your bank with UTR and screenshot.
- •Banks act as intermediaries and cannot withdraw money without the recipient's permission; escalate to the bank's nodal officer if needed.
- •Try contacting the recipient directly; if uncooperative, use NPCI's 'Dispute Redressal Mechanism' (DRM) portal or RBI's Banking Ombudsman as a last resort.
