Palar River: India's 'Milk River' - A Natural Wonder Flowing Through Three States
•
The Palar River, known as the 'Milk River of India', flows through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
•
Originating in the Nandi Hills, it travels 348 km before merging with the Bay of Bengal.
•
Its name comes from Tamil words 'pal' (milk) and 'aru' (river), and its pale color during monsoons reinforces the 'milk' association.
•
The river flows mostly underground, was a primary water source for Kolar Gold Fields, and replenishes groundwater.
•
An 1892 water-sharing agreement among the three states is still in effect for the Palar River.
