Dholpur's Hanuhankar Cannon: A Lion-Mouth Shaped Marvel with 7km Range

  • Dholpur, Rajasthan, is home to the historic Hanuhankar cannon, a symbol of the region's rich war strategy and architectural art.
  • Commissioned by Maharaja Rana Keerat Singh of Dholpur due to conflict with Gwalior's Scindia kings, it was crafted by Sitaram over six months.
  • Made of eight metals, this lion-mouth shaped cannon weighs 560 quintals and boasted an impressive 7-kilometer range, firing 14 shells simultaneously.
  • Originally built in Keerat Nagar (Purani Chhawani), its immense weight made it immobile.
  • After independence, the cannon was moved from Purani Chhawani to Indira Gandhi Park in Dholpur city in April 1985 with Indian Army's help, ensuring its preservation.

Why It Matters: Dholpur's Hanuhankar cannon, a 560-quintal, 7km-range marvel, symbolizes Rajasthan's martial heritage.
