First-Time Mahashivratri Fast? Essential Rules for Blessings and Health!
- •Mahashivratri on February 15, 2026, celebrates Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati's marriage; many may fast for the first time.
- •Begin with a morning bath and 'Sankalp' (resolve) before Lord Mahadev; wear white or clean cotton clothes.
- •Stay hydrated; consume milk, curd, fruits, sago khichdi, barnyard millet, peanuts, potatoes, seasoned with rock salt. Avoid wheat, rice, pulses, onion, garlic, and non-vegetarian food.
- •For Shivling worship, avoid turmeric, kumkum, and Ketaki flowers. Offer Bhasma, white flowers, and intact Belpatra. Chant 'Om Namah Shivaya' and observe 'Jagaran' (vigil) until midnight.
- •Break the fast ('Paran') on February 16, between 6:59 AM and 3:24 PM, starting with water or a light meal.
