Malda Hawker's Daughter Mishti Wins Javelin Silver, Aims for Olympics Gold

Mishti Karmakar, daughter of a Malda railway hawker, secured silver in the national-level Indian Open Throws competition (Under-18 javelin).
•
She achieved a throw of 45.35 meters at the 5th Indian Open Throws Competition 2026 held at Sports Authority of India, Patiala.
•
A student of Malda Railway High School, Mishti was a previous national champion and appeared for her Madhyamik examination this year.
•
She represented India at the Asian Youth Games last year but narrowly missed a medal due to an injury.
•
Mishti's ultimate goal is to compete in the Olympics and win a gold medal for India, inspiring her coach Asit Pal and the local community.
