Telangana: New Electricity Rules Bring Relief, Fixed Charges & Online Applications

• The Revanth Reddy government has introduced new electricity connection guidelines in Telangana, effective immediately.
• A fixed charge system replaces distance-based fees: Rs. 500 for up to 1kW, and Rs. 500 plus Rs. 600 per additional kW up to 5kW (max Rs. 3,500).
• Consumers can now apply for new connections online via DISCOM websites, uploading documents like Aadhaar and property papers.
• The new system includes automatic escalation to higher authorities for delayed applications, ensuring transparency and curbing negligence.
• Flexibility for apartments/gated communities to choose individual or single-point connections, and mandatory smart meters for new rural connections.
