Murshidabad Imambara Upholds Nawabi Iftar Tradition, Biryani Still Served
•
Murshidabad's Imambara continues the centuries-old Nawabi tradition of distributing Iftar meals during Ramadan.
•
While Tandoori Roti, Chana Dal, and fruit are common, Biryani is specially served on the 15th and 29th days of Ramadan.
•
The tradition began with Nawab Wasif Ali Mirza, who, unable to fast in London, fed 60 people as per Hadith.
•
The state government's Law Department, which acquired the Imambara in 1985, now funds and manages the Iftar distribution.
•
Approximately 300 fasting individuals receive meals daily, a significant increase from the 60 people fed during the Nawabi era.
