India Heatwave 2026: IMD Warns of Early, Intense Heat; Temperatures Soar 8°C Above Normal
•
India is experiencing an unusually early and intense heatwave in 2026, with temperatures 4°C to 8°C above normal in many regions.
•
North and Central India are already facing heatwave conditions; Delhi recorded 35°C in early March, an unusually high reading.
•
IMD issued heatwave alerts for Himachal Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Northern Tamil Nadu.
•
The absence of active western disturbances is causing clear skies and rapid temperature rise, accelerating the onset of hot weather.
•
Temporary relief is expected after March 9 with a fresh western disturbance, but the early heat raises significant climate concerns.
