Urban India: 50% Children Face Online Harm, Survey Reveals Digital Dangers

  • A LocalCircles survey across 302 districts found 1 in 2 urban parents reported their children (9-17) faced online harm in the past year.
  • 54% of children encountered inappropriate content, 46% faced bullying/trolling, and 46% experienced AI-based photo/video morphing.
  • Online aggression led to emotional withdrawal, anger, anxiety, sleep problems, and mood swings in affected children.
  • Social media (75%) and gaming platforms (52%) are identified as highest risk areas for harassment and exploitation.
  • 82% of parents found reporting harmful content difficult; 75% demand government-imposed time-bound responses for child safety complaints.
