•Papaya cultivation is rapidly increasing in Bihar, particularly in Champaran, Madhubani, Gaya, and Patna, driven by high income and government subsidies.
•Farmer Ravikant Pandey notes papaya is an annual crop, planted by March, with fruiting from November and harvesting until March of the following year.
•The 'Red Lady 786 Papaya' variety is most commonly cultivated in Bihar for its high yield.
•An acre can accommodate 1250 plants, yielding approximately 75,000 kg of papaya (60 kg per plant).
•Farmers can earn 1.5 to 1.8 million rupees per acre annually, with market prices ranging from 25 to 40 rupees per kg, if farmed scientifically.
