•Ali Larijani, a seasoned insider, has been given a crucial position by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, marking him as a trusted power-wielder in Iran.
•Khamenei has chosen Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, to serve as temporary leader if high-ranking officials are killed in war.
•Larijani, born in 1957 in Najaf, Iraq, comes from a famous clerical family and has a background in IRGC, government, and high-profile political roles.
•He was Speaker of the Iranian Parliament from 2008-2020 and was re-appointed Secretary of the SNSC in August 2025, with enhanced powers.
•Larijani is a front-runner to handle state business as an interim decision-maker if the Supreme Leader is incapacitated, though he cannot become Supreme Leader.
