El Mencho Killed: Mexico Cartel Leader Dies in US-Backed Operation, Sparks Widespread Violence
•Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was killed in a military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco.
•The operation triggered widespread retaliatory violence, with cartel members torching vehicles, blocking highways, and clashing with security forces across multiple Mexican states.
•El Mencho, a former police officer, co-founded CJNG in 2007 and transformed it into one of Mexico’s most powerful and ruthless criminal organizations, trafficking cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl.
•A US-military-led task force, Joint Interagency Task Force-Counter Cartel (JITF-CC), provided intelligence support for the operation, which was led by Mexican forces.
•Experts warn that El Mencho's death could lead to further violence and power struggles within Mexico's drug cartels.
