Global Politeness Survey: Japan Tops, Europe Doubts Itself, India Sees Itself as Polite

• A survey across 26 countries asked 5,000 people which nation they considered most civilized and polite.
• Japan ranked first globally (35.15%), but its own citizens, like Europeans, rated themselves lower.
• European countries were widely seen as polite, but Europeans themselves ranked their nations below average.
• India ranked 14th globally (1.53%) but its citizens placed themselves third in self-perception of politeness.
• Canada came second globally, followed by the UK, China, and Germany in the top five.
