Indian-Origin Woman Fined Over Rs 2 Lakh in Singapore for Repeatedly Feeding Pigeons

• Sanmugamnathan Shamla, 71, an Indian-origin woman in Singapore, was fined SGD 3,200 (Rs 2,27,556) for feeding pigeons.
• She pleaded guilty to four charges under the Singapore Wildlife Act, with five similar charges considered, for feeding pigeons on nine occasions over six months.
• Shamla is a repeat offender, having been fined SGD 1,200 in May last year for the same offence and disrupting an NParks pigeon trapping exercise.
• Despite previous convictions and promises not to re-offend, she continued feeding pigeons between July 2025 and January 2026.
• The court imposed a significant financial penalty to deter her, noting her persistent disregard for the law, though she requested a lower fine due to unemployment and lack of insurance.
