Rubio Urges G7 to Reopen Strait of Hormuz, Citing Global Interest
•
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on G7 nations to push for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, blocked by Iran.
•
Rubio emphasized that the disruption of the key shipping route is a global concern, not just a US issue, as little US energy passes through it.
•
The Strait of Hormuz is vital, with roughly a fifth of global oil and gas supplies passing through it in normal times.
•
He stated the strait could reopen if Iran stops threatening global shipping, calling it an outrage and violation of international law.
•
Rubio also noted US support in past conflicts, contrasting it with a lack of backing from some allies regarding the Iran conflict.
