Tarique Rahman to be sworn in as Bangladesh PM; Om Birla to represent India

  • Tarique Rahman is set to be sworn in as Bangladesh's Prime Minister on Tuesday, marking his first time in the top executive role.
  • The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the South Plaza of the Parliament Complex in Dhaka, a break from the traditional venue.
  • Rahman's party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), secured a decisive victory with 209 out of 297 parliamentary seats.
  • Rahman, 60, son of former PM Khaleda Zia, returned to Bangladesh two months ago after 17 years in self-exile in London.
  • India will be represented by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, accompanied by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, at the ceremony.
