Agnikul to launch AI data center prototype in orbit by year-end, aims for 2027 commercialization
•Chennai-based Agnikul Cosmos plans to launch an AI data center prototype in orbit by the end of this year, targeting commercial viability by 2027.
•The prototype, developed by NeevCloud, will be hosted on the extendable upper stage of rockets and used for AI inference, requiring less energy than model training.
•Space offers advantages like unlimited solar energy, efficient cooling due to near-absolute zero temperatures, and enhanced physical security for data confidentiality.
•The system will involve a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit, each hosting data center modules, communicating intra-satellite and satellite-to-ground.
•Satellites will operate in low-power mode during Earth's shadow (eclipse phase) and switch to high-power during sun-facing periods, utilizing radiative cooling.
