CDSCO Approves 3 Weight Loss Drugs: Orlistat, Tirzepatide, Semaglutide Now Available

• CDSCO has approved three drugs — Orlistat, Tirzepatide, and Semaglutide — for weight loss treatment in India.
• These drugs will be available for retail sale with a doctor's prescription, as stated by Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel.
• All therapeutic drugs must meet safety, quality, and efficacy requirements under the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019.
• Approvals are based on evaluation of clinical data and scientific evidence by CDSCO.
• The government has taken steps to regulate drug usage and prevent steroid self-abuse, including amending Drugs Rules, 1945, to include 14 steroids under Schedule H.
