Cybercrime Against Women Soars: 76,650 Incidents Reported in 2025, Govt Reveals
•Over 76,650 cybercrime incidents against women, including online abuse and stalking, were reported on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) in 2025, a significant increase of 28,322 since 2024.
•Complaints in 2025 included 37,743 cases of sexually obscene material, 19,703 of sexually explicit acts, 8,780 of rape/gang rape-related content, and 10,431 of child sexual abuse material.
•The 'online and social media related crime' category also saw a rising trend, with complaints increasing from 72,301 in 2021 to 1,73,766 in 2025, covering cyberstalking, fake profiles, and identity theft.
•In 2025, cyberbullying/stalking/sexting accounted for 45,832 complaints, fake/impersonating profiles for 46,784, and profile hacking/identity theft for 34,533 cases.
•The Central Government is supplementing state initiatives with advisories, financial assistance (Rs 132.93 crore under CCPWC), and has established the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and NCRP portal to combat cybercrimes.
