Delhi Zoo: Nilgai, Jackal Die in 3 Days; Animal Deaths Mount, Concerns Rise
•A male nilgai and a jackal died at the National Zoological Park, Delhi, on March 10 and March 12 respectively, within three days.
•Zoo Director Sanjeet Kumar attributed the deaths to old age, stating both animals were under observation for age-related complications.
•These incidents follow several other animal fatalities at the zoo in recent months, including a female antelope, another jackal, and a male Sangai deer.
•Earlier this month, a male Sangai deer, a Schedule I species, died after sustaining a hind limb injury requiring constant veterinary care.
•Other incidents include a jackal's alleged death by suffocation in December 2025 and a white tigress Durga suffering a fracture on March 2; zoo authorities deny negligence.
