EC Appoints Retired IPS Officer NK Mishra as Special Observer for Bengal Polls

• The Election Commission (EC) appointed retired IPS officer NK Mishra as special observer for West Bengal.
• Mishra will oversee the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and monitor poll preparedness for the upcoming 2026 Assembly polls.
• His appointment is made under Article 324 of the Constitution and Section 13CC of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
• He will periodically visit West Bengal and provide inputs to the Commission for necessary action.
• The EC has directed that Mishra should not issue appreciation letters to any election-related official during his tenure.
